Howard Robinson

BSc, Ph.D, C.Chem, MRSC, C.Sci, MEI, MIHT, MIAT

Howard RobinsonHoward was appointed Chief Executive of the Road Surface Treatments Association (RSTA) in June 2009. Prior to this he held a number of senior technical management roles with major national companies including; Wimpey Minerals, Redland Aggregates, Briggs Oil, Nynas Bitumen and Tarmac Quarry Materials.

He has had over 30 papers published relating to bitumen and asphalt with a particular leaning towards sustainability issues. Howard has also presented at numerous UK and European industry conferences and has had several patents granted in the field of aggregates and asphalt.

Over the years Howard has served on various BSI and MPA committees and currently represents the RSTA on BSI committees B/510, B/510/2 and B/510/19 dealing with road materials and in particular surface treatments. He also represents the UK on CEN Committee TC227 WG2 and TG1 dealing with European Standards for Surface Treatments.

Howard is also the Chairman of the National Highway Sector Scheme 13 Technical Advisory Committee for the supply and application of surface treatments to road surfaces.

He was appointed Visiting Professor at Liverpool John Moores University, School of The Built Environment in 2001 and has chaired the annual LJMU conference since its inception in 2002.

He holds a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry and is a chartered chemist and chartered scientist.

Clive Mitchell

Clive Mitchell was appointed as RSTA Training Manager in May 2011.Clive Mitchell

Clive has 25 years experience in the road marking industry ranging from hand and machine-laid operative to area supervisor and site agent. He has worked as a trainer, NVQ assessor and assessment centre co-ordinator and trainee internal verifier. In addition he is a banksman trainer, manual handling trainer and LRQA internal auditor.

Clive wrote the Specialist Apprenticeship Scheme for Road Marking and has been heavily involved in writing the Specialist Apprenticeship Schemes for the Velocity Patching Process and High Friction Surfacing. His role is to support and develop a range of standard and bespoke training and assessment services for members.

Lydia Vaux

Lydia manages the RSTA Assessment Centre, organises committee meetings, co-ordinates the Annual Conference and deals with external enquiries, financial matters and general administrative duties.
