Klaruw Systems: 25 years service on Flintshire roads
A longstanding and proven technique within Flintshire County Council’s road maintenance programme, the Klaruwtex190 retexturing process continues to deliver important benefits that satisfy budget considerations and help meet targets for road network condition in line with statutory performance standards.
Of the process David James, Flintshire County Council Head of Neighbourhood Strategy and Policy said: “You are better off retexturing a road surface and bringing it back to life, as no new materials are required such as with resurfacing or surface dressing. We can use Klaruw’s process several times for the cost of an inlay”.
With today’s emphasis on sustainability, eliminating the use of new surfacing and all the carbon footprint that that entails has strengthened the case for K190 retexturing. The treatment is produce less than 7% of the CO2 generated per lane km/mile with hot laid overlay.
The process is used on all parts of Flintshire’s 1089km network of A, B and C roads in order to restore skid resistance. Cost savings are estimated to be in the region of 20% of the cost of planing and resurfacing a surface course. Each K190 machine is capable of treating a width of up to 1.90m in one pass, working progressively at forward speeds of up to 0.8m per minute, depending upon the surface type. As much as 3,200m or 2 miles of lane can be treated in a day. “The process is much quicker and less disruptive, with no digging out or resetting of existing gullies and manhole covers”, said James
